Whenever you visit a new country you want to try the local delicacies. In the Czech Republic that includes often a lot of meat. At the restaurant, u modre kachnicky in Prague you have a choice between a lot of typical dishes from the country. Even the vegetarians amongst us (Stephanie) can enjoy a typical treat.
The restaurant is located in the tourist center of the city but that doesn’t mean the food is a tourist trap. (address: Michalská 16, 110 00 Prague 1, Old Town) In contrary, we found that the food here has a quality for the money. Chef Michael V. mastered his cooking skills particularly in Sweden, where he prepared meals for the King of Sweden and the King of Norway, among others. In his career at U Modré kachničky he has cooked for a long list of world famous guests, including Sean Connery, Tom Cruise, Gérard Depardieu or Pink Floyd. However, the chef himself pays much attention to neither name nor fame – you as a guest are entitled to impeccable service at all times, regardless of who you are or where you come from. He often gets inspiration in old cookbooks and has a traditional way of preparing the dishes. Adding a modern touch to all dishes of course.
Our favorites of the menu are the potato dumplings with onion, garlic, spinach and sautéed mushrooms and the traditional Czech potato soup with mushrooms and fresh marjoram. We only had lunch at one of the restaurants. The owner has two restaurants and both have a completely different interior.
The interior in restaurant u modre kachnicky takes you bake to the 30’. Here the smallest detail is equally important as the ingredients they use in their recipes. Every detail is personally handpicked by the owner Otakar Metlicka. This restaurant is well known for its interior since 1995.
