Those who have fallen – cemetery Margraten

During the invasion of Normandy on D-day thousands of soldiers sacrificed their lifes for our freedom. To honor those who have fallen beautiful cemeteries were build like this one in Margraten.

The American Cemetery Margraten is officially American territory, but it still feels like you are in the Netherlands. I’ve never been to the US before so does this count? The cemetery is located in Margraten, about 9 km from Maastricht.

This American military cemetery is the only one in the Netherlands. Here rest over 8,000 people. The headstones are set in long curves. This makes it a serene place for a stroll on a sunny Sunday.

The cemetery is open daily to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. There is always someone from the staff on location to answer your questions.

P.S. Do you find it weird to visit a cemetery?
