Ritz Carlton Shanhai the Portman

Luxurious retreat from Shanghai’s busy streets

Located in one of the world’s busiest and longest shopping street, Nanjing Road, The Portman Ritz Carlton-Shanghai hotel where we stayed for two nights offers luxury and culture at every turn.

Environment

A little background, Nanjing Road is a modern, electric street filled with shops, eateries, and exquisite restaurants making it China’s premier shopping pedestrian street. It has been restructured and has undergone noteworthy changes over time. Big traditional stores used to be found here until modern shopping malls, specialty stores, theaters, and international hotels were built on both sides of the street.

A number of 593 luxuriant rooms, unprecedented service, and exceptional amenities await guests when they book their stay. Also, can I just note, that the staff has exceptional English fluency, making our conversations very interesting.

Adorned with contemporary Chinese décor, furnishings, and artwork, overlooking the Shanghai skyline, guests can enjoy spacious bedrooms, with separate bath and shower facilities and an oversized bathtub with extended wardrobe. Decked with 37-inch LCD television with wired and wireless internet alike, you sure are going to feel like home in your choice of room. Also, there is an artfully positioned honor bar which may just seal the deal for you.

Meanwhile, the classic dining experience is also something guests can look forward to. With the relaunch of a new concept through comfort cuisine, Portman’s Restaurant absolutely unfolds itself as the focal point of dining and culinary excellence. Presenting the guest’s favorite dishes with a creative twist, you sure are to indulge your taste buds into an awesome episode of foodgasm. Unlimited servings of appetizers, seafood, and desserts all come along with a main course of preference.

The Ritz bar & lounge

The Portman Ritz-Carlton Shanghai also houses a new and exciting social destination that is The Ritz Bar and Lounge. Perfectly located in the celebrated Nanjing West Road, The Ritz Bar and Lounge is an exquisite lounge by day transforming into Shanghai’s racy cocktail bar by night. It is designed by Gensler, a famous San Francisco-based architectural firm, leaning towards Shanghai’s glamorous 1920’s and 1930’s era. It is graced with soft turquoise gems and enchanting bronze and gold jades.

You can get your hearty breakfast and light lunch here in the earlier time of the day, probably consider their delicious sweet treats that go best with your choice of organic coffee. You can also experience Ritz Carlton’s traditional afternoon tea with live music playing in the background to set the mood further for you.

Also, Shanghainese mixologist Jackael He is an added personal attraction as he pursues Shanghai’s notable craft cocktail culture. He has made his own signature cocktails, The Noodle Soup and The Shanghai Dirty Martini to name a few.

Thing is, Peter and I explored Shanghai on an extended layover visa. It was an awesome move to make since there was so much happening around the city that’s just been waiting to be discovered. There were a lot of luxury shops nearby like wow!

Most importantly, we had a good stay in this hotel, service was superb plus the staff is really friendly too! So while there was a lot of hustle and bustle in the busy streets of Shanghai, we found a lot of peace and quiet and luxurious resting retreat in The Ritz-Carlton Portman Shanghai hotel!
